Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga
A thorough introduction to the Ashtanga Yoga practice and an important tune up for experienced practitioners. This class will go over the fundamentals of Ashtanga yoga - Breath, Bandhas, Drishti and Vinyasa and will explain Jodi’s teaching philosophy to set the tone for the weekend.

Morning: Yoga Chikitsa - Breaking down the Primary Series
This class is a thorough look at theentire primary series - where all of your questions can be answered.
Afternoon: Pranayama, chanting, philosophy2:00 – 4:00 PM
In this class we will have a look at the traditionalpranayama practice that was taught by Sri K PattabhiJois to his students and discuss how to bring this into your daily practice. We will also discuss the importance of meditation in relationship to daily practice and introduce the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

The culmination of the entire weekend
We will Meditate, Breathe, Chant and practice the entire primary series straight through. Do your practice and all is coming!
JODI BLUMSTEIN has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for 17 years. From 1999 to 2005 she was the director of Priya Yoga - the first Ashtanga/vinyasa yoga school in Chicago. Jodi sees the Ashtanga practice as a highly transformative experience; it is physical exercise to keep the body clean, it is mental exercise to keep the mind sharp, and it is a tool for waking up to who we truly are, beyond name and form. Jodi has the unique ability to work with students of all levels, ages, and physical ability and to guide them towards establishing a consistent, daily practice to improve health on all levels. She encourages students to explore the unknown both on and off the mat and not to take anything too seriously. She has helped thousands of students begin their journey in this practice, and she holds the space for many communities to build thriving Ashtanga Yoga programs. Jodi Blumstein has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for 17 years and sharing her knowledge of this amazing practice from the start. When she discovered the practice at the age of 24, Jodi had already established herself in Chicago as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. As soon as she stumbled upon Ashtanga Yoga, she naturally began to pass her discovery, like a treasure she had found, on to her clients and students.
In 1998, Jodi opened the doors of Priya Yoga, Chicago’s first Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga studio and for the next 7 years she hosted workshops with the worlds top Ashtanga teachers and travelled herself, around the world to continue her studies. She was fortunate to study with Sri K Pattabhi Jois, both in Lakshmipuram, Mysore, South India as well attending many of his US visits to NY, LA, Encinitas and San Francisco. She has spent countless hours under the guidance of Tim Miller and Dena Kingsberg, who have influenced her life and teaching the most, and she is grateful to have been exposed to virtually every senior Ashtanga yoga teacher on the planet.

Currently, Jodi is living in Los Angeles where she teaches the Mysore program for Yoga Works at the Center for Yoga near Hollywood. She is also the founder of Shanti Shala in Silver Lake, which is her home based Yoga Shala, and the director of Shanti Shala Events which regularly hosts workshops with the worlds BEST Ashtanga yoga teachers around the Los Angeles area. Jodi travels to teach weekend workshops and weeklong retreats around the US and abroad.
